Product overview
Devil Design HIPS filament works both as a standalone printing material and as a soluble support for ABS in dual-extrusion workflows. As a main material, it is useful for prototypes, models and workshop parts that benefit from easy sanding, drilling or smoothing after printing. As a support material, it dissolves in D-limonene, making complex geometry easier to finish when ordinary breakaway supports would be difficult to reach.
A material for direct printing
HIPS is not limited to support structures. Use it as a main printing material for concept models, functional prototypes and workshop parts that need adjustment after leaving the printer. Its mechanical workability is a clear advantage when a hole, fit or visible surface needs further attention. Sanding can refine the surface, drilling can adjust mounting points, and smoothing can prepare a part for its final use or presentation.
Soluble support for complex ABS parts
In a dual-extrusion printer, Devil Design HIPS can be paired with ABS as the support material. After printing, D-limonene can dissolve the HIPS instead of requiring the support to be snapped or cut away. This is particularly useful around complex overhangs, deep recesses and internal features where tools have poor access. It gives design teams and experienced makers another route for producing geometry that would be awkward to finish with ordinary supports.
Printing needs thermal control
The material has large shrinkage, and part cooling is not recommended. Reliable bed adhesion and a stable thermal environment are therefore important, especially for larger parts. Use a heated build surface, protect the print from drafts and avoid sudden cooling. These steps help keep the process controlled while the part is being built.
When to choose this series
Choose Devil Design HIPS when you need one material for direct parts and dissolvable ABS supports, or when post-processing is central to the job. It is especially relevant for prototyping teams, workshops and makers that use dual-extrusion equipment or regularly refine printed parts by sanding, drilling and smoothing.
