PLA Filament

Shop PLA filament for concept models, visual prototypes, educational work and everyday FFF printing. Standard PLA is straightforward to print and normally needs no enclosure, but its heat resistance is limited. Compare standard, silk, high-speed, PLA+, lightweight and carbon-fibre grades below.

Which PLA grade should you choose?

Standard PLA Choose for the widest colour range, low shrinkage and uncomplicated prototypes or visual models. Browse standard pla
Silk PLA Choose for satin shine and reduced visibility of layer lines on decorative or presentation parts. Browse silk pla
High-speed PLA Choose for short cycle times on printers that can sustain the required melt flow; use a matching profile. Browse high-speed pla
PLA+ Modified PLA whose properties differ by manufacturer. Check the declared impact, flow and heat data for the exact product. Browse pla+
Lightweight PLA Choose for lightweight parts where reduced mass matters. Foaming behaviour and print settings depend on temperature and flow. Browse lightweight pla
Carbon-fibre PLA Choose for higher stiffness, better resistance to deformation and a matte technical finish. Browse carbon-fibre pla

PLA grades are not interchangeable. Standard and silk PLA normally print without an enclosure, while high-speed, modified and filled grades need their own temperature, flow and cooling profile. Carbon-fibre PLA can require a hardened or ruby nozzle. Follow the exact product page and technical data sheet rather than applying one universal PLA setting.

PLA buying questions

Does PLA need an enclosure?

Standard PLA normally does not. Manufacturers of standard PLA typically state that an enclosure is not required. Modified products can differ, so use the profile for the exact filament.

What is the difference between standard PLA and PLA+?

PLA+ is not one universal formulation. Manufacturers use the label for different modified PLA products, so compare the declared properties and print profile for the exact filament.

Can PLA be used for functional parts?

Yes, when the load and temperature suit the selected grade. Standard PLA is rigid and useful for fixtures, prototypes and lightly loaded parts, while modified PLA grades may add toughness. Check the declared heat and mechanical data for the exact product.

Can PLA be printed at high speed?

Yes, when the printer, hotend and filament can sustain the required material flow. High-speed PLA grades are designed for this use; start with the manufacturer's profile instead of only increasing movement speed.

What is Silk PLA for?

Silk PLA is intended for a satin or glossy surface that makes side-wall layers less visible. It is a finish-led choice for display parts, decorative objects and presentation models.

Does carbon-fibre PLA need a hardened nozzle?

Many carbon-fibre PLA grades are abrasive. Manufacturers of carbon-fibre PLA typically recommend a hardened steel or ruby nozzle. Check the exact product because filler content and nozzle guidance vary.
